This lot comes from a producer called Mohammed Abu Nura. His 35 hectare farm is situated in Omafuntulay Kebele in the province of Jimma, at a staggering altitude of 2,000 to 2,100 meters above sea level.
It is only in recent years that Ethiopian coffee varietals have been widely communicated to buyers. It is more common to simply see ‘heirloom’ or ‘landrace’ on the coffee label. Abu Nara’s farm features the JARC 74110 varietal, which was developed by the Jimma Agricultural Research Centre in the 1970s. This varietal is naturally resistant to coffee berry disease, and the trees are short and compact, making them not only reliable but easier for hand harvesting.
Once hand-picked and sorted these lots are then dried on raised beds for roughly 20 days before being pulped.
Ash says...
I love the delicate fresh peach notes here, as well as the ‘earl grey tea’ like aromas.
